The boat in the painting was named after a young friend of Hopper's who often took them sailing in Wellfleet harbor. Hopper was inspired to paint this by sailing with Martha and Reggie McKeen of Wellfleet, a much younger couple. He had been forced to give up sailing on his own by his wife, who thought it was too dangerous. Hopper adored
