making me think as much of folk art carved miniature books and bibles than as anything (including for the fact that the slab at his back is carved like a book as well) but I’m really not sure of its origins

Wonderful Little 1850 Slide Lid Snuff Box with Mother of Pearl Heart and Brass Nails Decoration pennywort making me think as muchA complete charmer of a folk art snuff box, and happily a dated one too, with 1850 spelled (numbered?) out in tiny brass nails at the top of the tight fitting slide lid. With wonderful inlaid mother of pearl at center of the lid, framed by more nails that extend out to form crosses, and what I believe are two urns with flowers on reverse, facing in opposite directions. And with careful attention paid to the carving of the box, with nicely rounded
