Cole-Bentinck chain pump Product:Postcard Peter Thomson wins his fourthDesign for an improved ships chain pump by John Bentinck FRS (1737 1775), British Navy Captain, and William Cole. Sectional elevation, 1: 24 scale. From Smeaton volume 2, fol. 117. A patent (no. 982) was granted for the design on 17 January 1771 for chain pumps for raising water out of ships.
