I have not touched the brass but it appears to be in good condition and would likely polish up if desired

I found their source on the website of the Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library at Yale: they are from Alphabet of Different Nations: For Teaching Children to Read

Individual blocks measure 2" long  per side and 5/8" thick

with the top mat tape hinged to the bottom mat along the left side--as documented

with some loss of the bright yellow nailed-on trim around the lower sides

C. 1930s, with instructions for 5 different games on the underside of the lid, and the solutions fold out still inside the box. Great for a road trip or on the coffee table, and really a perfect stocking stuffer. 4 5 8" x 4 5 8" x 3 8" t. Good condition,
