It took someone else to identify the object in the hand of this woman as most likely a fan

and especially that image near center of the “elevator” in use

from which it could be removed with a couple of snips

This is one of two albumen prints I found together, dating to the 1880s, which I believe likely were acquired on a "Grand Tour."
