Hinges on box are in excellent shape and lid closes perfectly flush but the latch on the box does not clasp tight on the front nail

No drama here

I've seen a lot of shoe- and boot-shaped old pin cushions

but the back and handle is mostly worn very smooth from many years of use

and the carving of the face reminds me a lot of Inuit carved stone heads
