A clean and respectable artisan tells a vagabond, who is armed with stones and a broken branch, that his type of help is not required. Broken railings can be seen in the background. Many ordinary artisans wished to distance themselves from the 'vast mass of roughs' that joined in their protests. This cartoon relates to the great riot in Hyde Park during July 1866.
