A First War Memorial Cross To The 24Th Canadian Infantry; Sugar Refinery 1916 Hold and 173rd Infantry Battalion "CanadianGV (65675 SGT. N. McCALLUM) naming is engraved, on private green ribbon, very fine. Footnote: Neil McCallum was born in Glasgow Scotland in 1983 and was working as a Inspector prior to enlisting in the CEF in October 1914. According to to War Diary records, the 24th launched a large attack from the Sugar Refinery on September 17th 1916 that proved to be extremely costly and ultimately unsuccessful.
