Forth and Clyde Canal Maria Anne Fitzherbert A ragged urchin with torchDesign for the gate heels, gate collars and the rack for drawing the cloughs for the Forth and Clyde Canal locks. Elevation and plans, 1: 6 scale. From Smeaton volume 5, fol. 19v. The Forth and Clyde Canal was Smeaton's largest project. The canal provided a route for sea going vessels by linking the Firth of Forth in the east with the Firth of Clyde in the west. Original: ink on paper. 1768
