Constructed of a dark brown wooden base, the obverse bearing a multi coloured painted applique consisting of a shield bearing a Norwegian flag, a polar bear, and an inscription of BANAK 1940, topped by a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, above a hand painted inscription of KRIEGSJAHR 1942 (WAR YEAR 1942), the reverse with two visible rivets securing the applique in place, unmarked,
