with turned wooden handle that screws off

but I think one could give it a little love by rubbing it with a bit of mineral oil or butcher block cream

I've done some digging and have found a few Ebenezer Averill's from these parts from the 18th and 19th centuries, but have not found any citations of a Boxworks, so am not quite sure of the age of this piece, though I might guess late 19th early 20th c. I'm also not quite sure what is was made for perhaps for spools of thread and thimbles? It
